Signs of recovery in the US housing market
We have been pretty quiet regarding the US market for the last two or three years other than reporting its significant oversupply problem with way more homes being built than being sold recently. This has been due to us watching and waiting for a suitable time to consider this great investment opportunity.
Well now, with the American Case Shiller house price index showing prices have dropped around 15% in America since the peak in 2006 there is a new opportunity. It may not quite be the bottom for the USA market as a whole but there are some prime, but distressed, investment properties available now for as little as 30% of previous asking prices. That is right - a 70% price reduction in some exceptional cases.

Almost 2 Dollars to the Pound
Over the last six years the dollar has gone from $1.40 to the £ to a peak of $2.11 to the £ with the rate currently $1.85.
This has meant that the British buyer has around 43% more purchasing power at present than in 2002. Something is changing however and it looks like the dollar is going to strengthen over the coming year or two versus sterling as US rates stop falling and UK rates continue to fall (regardless of current inflation concerns).
If this happens, the dollar is likely to retrace in a series of steps back to around $1.62 over the next year or two.
